Tragic Death of Delivery Cyclist Thiago Cortes

I’m sure I’m not alone in saying that the news of a cyclist being knocked down or worse still, losing their life sends a shiver through me. An injury to one cyclist is an injury to all of us who cycle.

What makes it all the worse is that Thiago Cortes died in the course of his work. As a delivery cyclist, there was a level of risk that Mr. Cortes faced in the course of his work every single day.

Yesterday I wrote to the Chief Executive of the Health & Safety Authority to ask her to launch an investigation into the full circumstances of Thiago's death, in parallel to the criminal investigation.

It is vital that we know whether Deliveroo provided Thiago with the proper equipment to safeguard his life, his health and his safety while at work. For all delivery cyclists, this is vitally important. Letter is here:
